The IU Columbus women's soccer team traveled to East Chicago to face a tough IU Northwest team on Saturday. The RedHawks (4-1-0) proved to be a tough opponent as they scratched out a 1-0 home victory.
Mari Williams scored the only goal of the game at the 35:16 mark on an assist from Ava Haluska. The first half saw one yellow card on IU Columbus'
Lily Campbell.
The second half was a more physical, defensive battle. Each team received three yellow cards in the final 45 minutes, with IU Northwest getting two in the final seconds of play.
Coach Kevin Nolan: " It took us the first 45 minutes to get comfortable, and we allowed that one goal. However, I'm very proud of the girls for their second half effort. We have played IU Northwest in past years and this was their strongest tem. I think once we can get our attack going we will start to get more wins against tougher opponents."
