Zach McClellan is a former Major League Baseball pitcher and current Athletics Director at IU Columbus (IUC), where he leads one of the fastest-growing small-college athletics departments in the region. A native of Toledo, Ohio, Zach played college baseball at Indiana University, where he was a three-year letter-winner known for his size, power, and leadership on the mound.

He was selected in the 5th round of the 2000 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals and went on to spend nearly a decade in professional baseball. His career included stints with the Royals and Colorado Rockies organizations, the Mexican Winter League, and independent leagues. In 2007, Zach made his MLB debut with the Rockies during their World Series season, earning his first big-league win and pitching during teammate Troy Tulowitzki’s historic unassisted triple play.

While Zach had previously founded Demand Command, a successful baseball and softball training organization, he has since stepped away from the program as it continues to operate independently.

Zach has remained passionate about education and professional development throughout his career. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University while playing professionally and later completed his MBA from the University of Phoenix. He has also served as an adjunct lecturer at IUC, teaching graduate-level professional development courses.

In 2023, Zach was named the inaugural Athletics Director at Indiana University Columbus. Under his leadership, the athletics department has launched and is now entering its second, third, and fourth years for various programs. The school now sponsors 11 intercollegiate teams and two club teams, competes in the River States Conference (RSC), and is an official member of the NAIA. His vision has helped lay a strong foundation for competitive success, student-athlete support, and long-term program sustainability.
