Reena Haliburton is a passionate basketball coach and former collegiate athlete from Louisville, Kentucky, whose journey in the game spans over two decades. A standout player at Ballard High School, Reena scored over 1,000 points during her high school career before continuing on to Saint Catharine College, an NAIA Division I program. There, she again surpassed the 1,000-point milestone, cementing her legacy as a dynamic and determined competitor.
In 2012, Reena played semi-professionally for the Louisville Fillies. Although health challenges, including a diagnosis of Pheochromocytomas and other rare conditions, eventually forced her to step away from playing, her deep love for the game never wavered. Determined to stay connected to basketball, she transitioned into coaching—a role that allowed her to share her knowledge, experience, and leadership with the next generation of athletes.
Reena began her coaching career in 2014 as an assistant at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Louisville. She went on to lead a 3rd/4th grade girls AAU team with Kentucky Premier in 2016, guiding them to two tournament championships. Over the years, she has coached and mentored boys and girls from 5th through 8th grade, focusing on skill development, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
In 2023, Reena returned to her roots at Meyzeek Middle School—where she once played—as a coach for Galaxy, an all-girls basketball league. Her commitment to giving back to her community and empowering young athletes has made her a respected figure in youth sports in Louisville.
Fun Fact: Although left-handed, Reena learned to play basketball with her right hand thanks to her older brother. This unique duality, combined with the influence of the exceptional coaches who guided her early on, has shaped her coaching philosophy and approach to the game.
